Being intentional about reading good leadership books does not just happen. Like most things, it is a decision that requires discipline to follow through and achieve positive results.
Though intense, completing OT's recommended reading list helped lay a solid foundation for, and sparked a desire to pursue my own leadership development as well as that of the executives within ABC Women's Clinic.
Utilizing Jim Collins' idea of "getting the right people on the bus" [from 'Good to Great in the Social Sectors'] was the first step. Developing the team for maximum mutual benefit by using the tools in Peter Drucker's and Patrick Lencioni's books has improved meetings and productivity, increased morale, and reduced turnover. Lencioni's books are always a quick read but are packed with nuggets that have helped me avoid some of common pitfalls of leadership.
By applying Steven Covey's principles of changing habits to improve results [from 'The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, which isn't an official part of the OT Executive Reading List] and David Allen's tips from 'Getting Things Done' have helped streamline my day, making me more efficient and less stressed.
Consistently reading the most effective leadership book, the Bible, refines my thoughts which translates into improved behavior and attitude as i realize that the plans and purposes of God are being fulfilled as I lay my life down daily, fight the good fight of faith, and stand in the gap for those with no voice.
Leaders are readers. OT helps expedite the process of leadership development by bringing all of the OT executives to a higher level of efficiency and effectiveness, which is why it is called the OPTIMIZATION TOOL......it truly optimizes executives who optimize pregnancy clinics.
